Looking for a super fun and simple project to keep your kids busy on a rainy day? If you do, then there this cozy fleece scrap blanket is perfect for you! These are great blankets to snuggle up on the couch with while watching your favorite show or reading a good book. They're also upcycled from leftover fleece scraps (good for the Earth!). 1) So, first off what is pretty self explanatory here: MAKE A BLANKET
What you need to make a fleece scraps quilt To begin with you need to gather your old fleece scraps. All the colors or patterns are chosen as per your preference. This is a great way to make your blanket unique and exciting, like you! You'll also need a few tools, like Scissors (to cut the fleece), Ruler (to help you measure) and A Sewing Machine to stitch them all together. You can sew by hand if you do not have a sewing machine.
With all of your supplies in hand, it is time to begin cutting your fleece scraps into square selvages. Use any size squares that you want, but 5-inch squares are perfect for this project. Using a ruler will allow you to easily cut straight lines that ensure your blanket looks nice and flush.
Now that you have cut all of those squares it is time to lay them out! Begin by laying squares out on a flat surface and forming desired pattern. Be as creative as you want! You can combine colours and patterns to produce something gorgeous that cannot be found elsewhere. Once you have it all looking the way you like, go ahead and begin sewing those squares together. When sewing the squares together (if your using a machine) just sew them in strait stitch. When using a sewing machine for the seam, whip stitch and sew by hand works great too!
When all of your squares are sewn together you can add a back to the blanket. I always prefer corner rounds since, it makes this blanket extra comfy. Step 1: Take a large square of fleece that is larger than the blanket. Position this large piece under the squares you have just sewn in place. Ensure a neat alignment Then you can use it to pin everything down. Next, you are going to sew around the edges of your blanket. And leave a teeny opening! That hole is where you will flip your blanket later.
Fold over the edge and sew all around, leaving an opening to turn it right-side out when done. Set the fabric in place and cut around it, taking great care not to snip through into any part of the sewing(although if you do, simply catch that too). Now turn - a few stitches close up neatly. And just like that, you have a homemade fleece scrap blanket. Part of the charm about this project is that it can be enjoyed by either oneself or in groups with friends + family. Not only do you make something pretty, but this reduces waste to save the planet!
The best thing about sewing these fleece scrap blankets is that you can mix and match colors and prints to suit your style. Ideally, you can pick the options that suit YOUR taste or make YOU happy! Plus, these blankets can easily go with any room. Use them on your bed for comfort, or use them to cozy up the couch and watch a movie, take em out in the park picknicking.
